About the event

Vaikuntha Ekadashi is one of the most significant and auspicious festivals observed by Hindus. The festival falls on the eleventh day (Ekadashi) of the waxing phase of the moon (Shukla Paksha) during the Hindu month of Margashirsha (or Dhanurmasa), which typically corresponds to December or January in the Gregorian calendar. The central belief is that on this day, the celestial gate of Vaikuntha Dwaram (the gate to Vaikuntha, Lord Vishnu's eternal abode) is opened. It is believed that observing a fast and passing through the symbolic Vaikuntha Dwaram in Vishnu temples grants devotees a path to Vaikuntha and freedom from the cycle of birth and death. The day commemorates the victory of Ekadashi Devi, a female power that emerged from Lord Vishnu, who defeated the demon Murāsura. Pleased by her, Vishnu named her 'Ekadashi' and granted the boon that anyone who fasts on this day would attain Vaikuntha
